About Brian

I believe there is no greater reward than guiding young people in the crucial journey to college.

I have over 30 years of experience helping students navigate the array of college options and develop confidence leading to college acceptance at some of the best schools in the world. I aim to nurture curiosity and global perspective, encouraging students to become engaged citizens, critical thinkers, and resilient individuals. With knowledge of virtually every college major and knowledge of career options available to students, I am comfortable working with a broad range of students. I have expertise working with neurodivergent students, student-athletes, creative students and students who may be undecided about their future.  Above all, I enjoy working with students and feel it is a privilege to be part of the college consulting process.  When managed correctly, the college search process should be an exciting learning process that opens new doors, rather than an experience fraught with stress or frustration.

I enjoy coaching Nordic skiing and cycling for athletes of all ages and abilities. Currently, an elite cyclist with experience racing in multiple world and nationship championships, I continue to race for the Minneapolis based Donkey Label Masters Cycling team.  I am proud to have over 300 podium career appearances and multiple MN state championship titles.  More importantly, I place a high value on  student participation in life-long endeavors and help each student leverage their passion for a better college experience.

After completing my Masters of Education degree in Higher Education Administration, I served as Director of Internships at Gustavus Adolphus College. I also worked as Associate Academic Advisor for the University Honors Program at the U of MN Twin Cities. In this role, I worked with high achieving undergraduates in the Carlson School of Management and students in all majors across the College of Liberal Arts.

I was born and raised in Oshkosh, WI where my father taught me to sail on Lake Winnebago.  I grew up free to explore the rural roads on my Peugeot bicycle and discover music, which led me to my studies at Lawrence University, in Appleton, WI. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence Conservatory of Music and my Masters of Education Degree from Kent State University in Ohio. I enjoy music of all kinds, particularly jazz and classical.  Current (jazz) favorites include Joshua Redman, Keith Jarrett, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and Miles Davis. I love the fiction of Karl Ove Knaaussgard, Haruki Murakami, Lauren Groff, Rachel Cusk, Philip Roth, Sally Rooney, and Richard Wright.
